Zoo with Friends

On Saturday we met our friends, the Stones, for breakfast at Taco Felix and then spent the day at the zoo.

Later that evening at bedtime, Sidney Kate decided it was her turn to read her Bible to us. She would turn the pages and talk about Jesus.

Lately

Sidney Kate is loving school and has adjusted quite well to being at BB's three days a week and at school two days a week. She is singing her "old" songs (ABCs and Jesus Loves Me) so much clearer and is learning "new" ones all the time--this week she started singing "I'm Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee."

Brushing teeth is a twice-daily battle. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's the most difficult thing in the world. On this particular morning, she chose to brush her teeth all by herself in her booster seat on our bed.

MawMaw had open-heart surgery a week or two ago and finally moved to the step-down floor so we were able to take SK to visit her before going to Senatobia's football game. Check out the teeny-tiny ponytail!

First Day of Preschool

Sidney Kate started her 2-year old preschool last week. She was SOOO excited to go to school. I ordered her backpack a few weeks ago and she had been anxiously awaiting the first day of school when she got to carry her backpack. She will go two days a week for a half day and spend the rest of the day with my mom. Then she'll be at BB's the other three days of the week.

Once again, tired of pictures...ready to get in to school.

Grandmother and Aunt Olivia picked her up from school and took her to eat lunch (which will probably become a weekly thing). Then they went home for naps and, later, a little playtime before I picked her up.

All she could talk about after the first day was her backpack and her sprite from lunch. I love seeing her so excited about different things. I only pray her excitement for school continues for the next 20 or so years!!

The Weekend

Bailey was out of town this past weekend for his boys weekend (their annual fantasy football draft) so SK and I had lots of time together. Friday night we went to Como with my dad to eat at the steakhouse. Saturday morning we made a quick trip to Walmart and then worked around the house. That afternoon we headed to Bounz for Carter's 3rd birthday. 

Sidney Kate wasn't too sure of all the bouncies (and all the bigger kids running around). We played for a little bit before taking a break and then getting some snacks. 

She went straight for the chocolate and sprinkle covered pretzel before anything else. She ate most of the chocolate off before eating the pretzel. 

After the party, SK and I went with a few of the other girls to eat dinner. We had a great time sitting outside and catching up. Sidney was such a hoot. She ate and kept herself entertained, then she turned her chair around toward the parking lot and just watched the cars go by (and semi-greeted people as they walked up). 

Since daddy was away, she slept with me that night :)

Bailey was home by lunch (at Nonnie's, of course) and then we got ready to go back to church for "meet the teacher." Sidney will be going to preschool two days a week. She couldn't be any more excited. She was not very happy when we had to leave her class. So hard to believe she's already this big. I know she is going to love it.  

End of Summer

Well, it's come again--the end of summer. We started our last day of summer just like we started our first day--at the donut shop. This time Bailey joined us. 

After donuts, we made our Walmart trip and then came home. Sidney Kate had a little picnic snack while I worked in the kitchen. 

Then we had some playtime in her room.

After her nap, we went to Net's to swim and catch up with some friends from high school, Julia and Kara. It was so great seeing them and SK and I got to meet Julia's girls.  

SK and I spent most of the day Saturday around the house while Bailey and Jon worked on their capstone/dissertation thing. Bailey and I went to a friends wedding on Saturday night (no pictures to document). Sunday afternoon, the guys got back together to work some more. After SK's nap we made a trip to Sonic to get them a little pick-me-up. 

Some of the things SK is saying/learning these days:

-"Shoo fly! Don't bother me!"

-"Sidney Kate or Sidney Hunt"

-She'll call us "Mama Hunt" or "Daddy Hunt"

-"Where go dada?" "What you doin dada?"

-"Get out me mama" (asking me to get her out of her seat, etc.)

-She can tell you how old she is and has finally learned to do "two" on her fingers

-She's learned the phrases "not yet" and "in a minute" (and knows how to use them appropriately)

-I was recently talking to her about the moon and for at least the next 3 days, she asked to go look at the moon; she's started to do the same with the sun. She picks up on things almost instantly.

-Most mornings, I've had Sidney help me check the mail. If I forgot about it (or even if we'd already done it), she'd ask to "check mail."

-She loves all the music from Frozen, especially "Let it Go." Mr. Jeff jokes with her and sings it, "let it be" and she corrects him...it's hilarious!

-Sometime during the summer, Mr. Jeff (G-daddy) starting calling Tater Head. She wouldn't have it and started calling him Tater. He is no longer G-daddy and is now officially Tater.

Potty Training Attempt #1

I knew BB was going to be out of town the last week of summer before school started so I thought I'd give potty training a try (since SK has been showing a good bit of interest). I loaded up on some small prizes, candy, and stickers and planned to start on a Friday going pretty hard through the weekend.

The first three days went pretty well. She would use the potty a few times but would also have some accidents. The fourth day went even better...more times in the potty than accidents. 

Then came day five. I'd take her to the bathroom but she would NOT sit on the potty. Not even 5-10 minutes after leaving the bathroom she'd have an accident. After this happened several times that day, we decided to call it quits for now. Mama and Sidney were both getting frustrated with one another so it was just time to stop. 

We'll give it another go sometime later.
