So, to say a post is due is a bit of an understatement. I'm going to try to do a quick recap of the last few months. It will probably be wordy and will for sure lack pictures (maybe I can do that later this week??) However, I'm really going to work at being better at this blog thing so it can sort of serve as a baby/family scrapbook.
August
Bailey spent a weekend in Jackson with his buddies from college so they could do their Fantasy Football draft picks. That Sunday night after he got home, the 21st, we took our first at home pregnancy test which was positive. I took another the next day to be sure and called the doctor that week to schedule our first appointment.
September
Our first appointment was on Monday the 12th. At that appointment we had an ultrasound and saw the heartbeat and thus our baby story officially began. The following weekend we went to Nashville to watch Ole Miss play. While we were out of town, we made extra copies of our ultrasound picture for the announcement to our families. Because if we would have done that anywhere in our area, the secret would surely have been out.
My dad's birthday was the 16th (while we were out of town). I had told him we'd be bringing his gift to him a little late. On Tuesday the 20th, Bailey and I went over to my parents to give him his gift. His gift was wrapped up, along with an ultrasound picture, and a card. He opened the card first (as we had hoped) which mentioned something about being a great dad and grandfather and was signed, "Bailey, Margaret, and Baby Hunt." He immediately caught on and kind of quietly passed the card across the room to my mom. (Sidenote: when we got to my parents, my niece, Jalynn, was there. Jalynn is in 3rd grade and we'll just say she likes to talk. There was no way not to give my dad his gift as that was the whole purpose of going over so I just had to tell him, and then mama, to open it quietly since we weren't telling Bailey's family until the next day). Mama then opened the card, started crying and then passed it on to Olivia. I had to call William later that evening to tell him the news.
The next day was Bailey's mom's birthday. She truly set the announcement up for us perfectly. Back in July or August she had picked out a few things for several of us to get her for her birthday. One of those things was a picture frame which says somewhere along the lines of "A few of my favorite things." We put the ultrasound picture in the frame before it was wrapped. We went over to his parents house that night after we had dinner. Mrs. Connie had already gotten all of her other gifts so she pretty much knew that our gift was the picture frame. Little did she know what was inside! I was able to stand to the side and get her reaction on video on my cell phone. Hopefully I can figure out how to post that as her reaction was priceless. We then started calling/texting other family and friends to share the good news.
October/November
I had my second and third doctor's appointment and we heard the heartbeat each time. Bailey and I went with our friends Rachel and Ben to Kentucky to the Ole Miss game. The game was not so good but we had a fun trip. I went to a Chris Tomlin/Christy Nockels/Louie Giglio concert/thing with the girls which was incredible! I thoroughly enjoyed my time off at Thanksgiving and we, of course, ate too much. I was one of those crazies that went shopping at midnight but had lots of fun doing so.
December
Monday the 5th was the big day--the day we found out we are having a GIRL! Let me share a little about that day as it was truly one to remember. Our appointment was that afternoon so I decided to take a 1/2 day from school so I could finish getting the house in order for things that evening. After I got everything done, I sat down to eat and watch TV before it was time to go to the appointment. Out of the corner of my eye I see something scurry along the wall. I stand up to see and there is a little mouse!!!! It runs around the living room for a minute as Lula is chasing it and then runs under the oven. I've called Bailey, who is already on his way home, and tell him to HURRY!!! I stood in front of the oven to make sure the little guy doesn't go anywhere. Bailey gets home and after what felt like foreeeever, we caught it. If you have ever seen the movie Mousehunt, that's what we felt like (and probably looked like it too!)
After taking a little breather, we made our way to the doctor. I was advised by several friends to drink a Coke and eat a Snickers so baby would be active. It worked fabulously! Little miss was moving all around and gave us several good shots. Everything looked perfect! We stopped by Target on our way home to buy our first little girly things. Our families came over that evening for dinner and for the big reveal. We decided to make the revelation by having our mom's put together a puzzle of a little poem. We were not completely sure of baby girl's name that night but soon decided: Sidney Katherine.
The rest of December was filled with Christmas parties, lots of eating, and spending time with family and friends. I picked out the fabric for Sidney's bedding and we're taking baby steps toward getting her room ready.
Pregnancy so far--
I experienced a little bit of morning sickness the first few weeks, but it was bearable. For several weeks my gag reflex was very sensitive (especially when brushing my teeth in the morning). Also, those first few weeks I was pretty tired. I would come home from school and take a nap before I could do anything else. Not long after we took the at home test, I could definitely tell a difference in my face reacting to all the hormone changes (and still can). It has been much more sensitive and break-out prone. I have not had any weird cravings yet. I have mostly wanted all things salty and have not wanted as many sweets. There have been a few nights where sleep has not been great but the last week or so has been good. She has started moving a good bit more and is starting to kick harder. Bailey hasn't felt her just yet, but I have a feeling it will be very soon. Overall, I have felt pretty good thus far. Tomorrow marks 24 weeks and my next appointment.
Pictures, and maybe a video, to come soon, along with a regular post here and there.
