Welcome Sidney Kate!

On Friday, April 27, Bailey and I went with my family to eat dinner at one of our favorite pizza places, Avellino's. After dinner, we went to watch my cousin's baseball game (his team was in the state playoffs). Bailey and I got home somewhere around 9 and were in bed by 9:30. (Let me just mention that Bailey took two Tylenol PM before getting in bed). About 11:30, I woke up suddenly to my water breaking. We showered, finished packing up our bags, and headed to the hospital. Bailey was still a bit groggy from the Tylenol PM he took, but I think his adrenaline (along with two Diet Mtn. Dews) kicked in.

Last belly pic--39 weeks, 4 days

We checked into the hospital a little after 1 a.m. I was still at 2 cm which is where I had been at Monday's appointment. I was 100% thinned. We got into our room and shortly after, around 3, I got my epidural. We had a few people come in and visit for a few minutes here and there but mostly tried to rest. Around 6:30, I was at 3 cm and they started the pitocin. I was at 4 cm about 8 a.m. At 9:30 they came back to check me and I was about 9 cm. The nurse had someone else come behind her to double check because she couldn't believe it. At 11, I was about 9 1/2 cm.

Daddy-to-be waiting patiently

Our last picture as a family of two!

We started pushing around 11:45. After about an hour and a half of pushing, the doctor stopped by to check in on our progress. Sidney was "sunny-side up" (face-up), so he tried to turn her. Ouch! He wasn't successful. We tried pushing for almost another hour and a half. The doctor came back around, said we weren't making progress, so let's head to the OR. (I was more than ready for that). They drugged me up some more, Bailey put on his OR gear, and off we went for the C-section.
We got to the OR, they got me on the table, and the anesthesiologist started pinching and poking me to see if I could still feel some pain. Yes, I could. He continued to give me some meds as they started the C-section. Bailey stayed on "my side" of the curtain as I was still hurting. I soon passed out. I woke up and did not see Bailey where he was previously sitting. Then he came around the corner holding our baby girl. Sidney made her debut into the world on April 28 at 3:03 p.m. She weighed 8 lb. 14 oz. and was 20 inches long.

Hanging out in recovery

They took me to recovery while Bailey went to show everyone pictures of Sidney Kate. Then he came back to recovery with us where we spent a little time before making it to a room. Once we got to a room, family and friends poured in to meet our sweet baby girl.

We followed the suggestions of many and had Sidney stay in the nursery at night. I think Bailey and I both actually got a little bit of rest (especially considering we may have a had a total of 3-4 hours sleep/rest the night before). On Sunday, we had some more family and friends visit. Once again on Sunday night, we let baby girl stay in the nursery so we could get some rest.

The doctor came by Monday morning and said we could stay another day or, if we were ready, we could go home. Of course, we were ready to go. It wasn't until after lunch that the nurse came by with the discharge instructions, etc. We finished getting our stuff together and then we were on our way home as a family of three!!

39 Weeks

Size of Baby: The size of a wintermelon (???); about 20 inches long and a little over 7 pounds (that's average, but according to a previous doctor's appointment we think Sidney may be bigger)

Maternity Clothes: Mostly maternity clothes. I have two pairs of sandals that I've been able to wear the last week and they make indentions on my poor feet.

Gender: It's a girl--Sidney Katherine (we're not real sure if we will just call her Sidney or Sidney Kate)

Belly Button In/Out: Pretty flat

Movement: She's slowed down a bit. She pretty much just pushes around trying to find some room to stretch out.

Sleep: Every night is different. Some nights it's easy to get to sleep, others not so much. I'm still getting some sleep though.

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach; simple, mundane things such as bending over easily or putting my shoes on easily; not having to go to the bathroom constantly

Cravings/Aversions: No particular cravings or aversions. Everything sounds good.

Symptoms: My back is starting to hurt more, especially if I sit too long. I wake up and my feet (particularly my left foot) are puffy. The ankle swelling hasn't been as bad these last few days with the cooler weather.

Best Moment This Week: We did practically nothing this weekend and it was wonderful. We got lots of rest.

What I am looking forward to: This sweet girl's arrival.

Update from Doctor's Appointment: We have made a little progress. An induction is scheduled for Friday, May 4 if she doesn't make her appearance before then.

38 Weeks

Size of Baby: The size of a pumpkin; over 19 1/2 inches long and almost 7 pounds (that's average, but according to a previous doctor's appointment we think Sidney is probably bigger)

Maternity Clothes: Mostly maternity clothes. My feet continue to swell--the last two days I've only been able to wear one particular pair of flip flops

Gender: It's a girl--Sidney Katherine (we're not real sure if we will just call her Sidney or Sidney Kate)

Belly Button In/Out: Pretty flat

Movement: She's slowed down a bit. She pretty much just pushes around trying to find some room to stretch out. Once again, she doesn't like when I lay on my left side. She doesn't kick/punch like she did before but she seems to shift her whole body to my left side when I try to lay down.

Sleep: Every night is different. Some nights it's easy to get to sleep, others not so much. I'm still getting some sleep though.

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach; simple, mundane things such as bending over easily or putting my shoes on easily; not having to go to the bathroom constantly

Cravings/Aversions: No aversions. Anything has sounded good this last week. I have been really thirsty again and about anything is good--water, coke, orange juice, grape juice. This last week or so I've rediscovered my love for the Clear American flavored water (my favorite flavors are the black cherry and mandarin orange).

Symptoms: Backaches and tired feet, all depending on what I've done that day and where/how I've been sitting. My left ankle is pretty much nonexistant for all but an hour or two in the morning.

Best Moment This Week: I think I can finally say we pretty much have her room completed, except for something Uncle Mickey had made for us to hang on the wall and adding a few pictures to some frames.

What I am looking forward to: This sweet girl's arrival.

Update from Doctor's Appointment: No change from last week. Apparently walking a 5K did nothing to help things along. An induction will be scheduled for Friday, May 4 if she doesn't make her appearance before then.

37 Weeks (a few days late)

Size of Baby: The size of a watermelon; about 19 inches long and over 6 pounds (that's average, but according to last week doctor's appointment we think Sidney is probably bigger)

Maternity Clothes: Mostly maternity clothes. Due to this lovely feet swelling, I will mostly be wearing flip flops from here on out.

Cravings/Aversions: No aversions. Anything has sounded good this last week.

Symptoms: Backaches and tired feet, all depending on what I've done that day and where/how I've been sitting. My left ankle is pretty much nonexistant for all but an hour or two in the morning.

Best Moment This Week: We pretty much have her room completed. I had a wonderful shower at school. The lady that cuts my hair made a cast of my belly--I can't wait to see the finished product in a few weeks.

What I am looking forward to: This sweet girl's arrival.

Update from Doctor's Appointment: We are slowly making progress. My doctor okayed me to walk a 5K this weekend so we'll see if that helps anything along.

Gender: It's a girl--Sidney Katherine (we're not real sure if we will just call her Sidney or Sidney Kate)

Belly Button In/Out: Pretty flat

Movement: She's most active when I get in bed at night. She's running out of room and is often pushing around trying to find more room.

Sleep: Every night is different. Some nights it's easy to get to sleep, others not so much. I'm still getting some sleep though. I slept like a baby last night. I think I only got up to go to the bathroom once.

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach; simple, mundane things such as bending over easily or putting my shoes on easily; not having to go to the bathroom constantly

Cravings/Aversions: No aversions. Anything has sounded good this last week. I have been very thirsty. I tend to get really thirsty about the last hour or so before I go to bed, which is not a good thing.

Symptoms: Backaches and tired feet, all depending on what I've done that day and where/how I've been sitting. The swelling in my feet is starting to get worse; it is mainly my left foot that swells.

Best Moment This Week: We saw our sweet baby girl yesterday but she did not want her picture taken--she had her hands over her face. Also, I had a GREAT shower with friends on Sunday!

What I am looking forward to: One more shower tomorrow at school. I'm looking forward to the weekend and having time to finish up the room. Also, I'm getting a belly cast made on Saturday.

Update from Doctor's Appointment: According to the ultrasound technician's measurements, (which can be off either way), I'm measuring about 37 weeks, 4 days and Sidney appears to be about 7 lb, 2 oz. So, looks like she may come early...we'll wait and see.

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach; simple, mundane things such as bending over easily or putting my shoes on easily; not having to go to the bathroom constantly

Cravings/Aversions: No aversions. Anything has sounded good this last week.

Symptoms: Backaches and tired feet, all depending on what I've done that day and where/how I've been sitting. The swelling in my feet is starting to get worse; it is mainly my left foot that swells.

What I am looking forward to: We will have another ultrasound at next week's appointment!! Also, we have 2 showers next week! Continuing to work on her bedding and her room--it's coming along (slowly).

Showers

A few weeks ago I met up with some of my good friends for dinner and a little shower for Sidney. Her "aunts" have already begun spoiling her lots and lots. Here are a few pics.

Lots of goodies!

Then a week or two later we had a shower with our Sunday School class. We got a little start on diapers, wipes, and diaper rash cream in addition to the things in the picture below.

We are so blessed to have such sweet family and friends. I can't wait for the other two showers--one at school and one hosted by some friends from church. Sidney Kate is already one loved little girl!

Student Comments/Questions

I have not made any announcement or anything to my students about me being pregnant. I have so many and see them in various groups I just wasn't sure how I wanted to do it. So, once a few of them started asking/commenting about it, I just decided I'd let them figure it out. It has been quite fun. I wish I would have started writing all of the things they've said down, but I'll try to recap them now. Most of these comments/questions started after Christmas break after my belly had sort of popped out there.

"You must be having a baby or something?"

Student: Mrs. Hunt, I noticed your belly is sort of poking out a little bit.
Me: Yes, it is growing some. What do you think that means?
Student: You're having a baby. Is it a boy or girl? (And the convo continued a bit.)

"Mrs. Hunt, all the kids in my class say you're having a baby."

Student: My sister says you're having a baby.
Me: Well, what do you think?
Student: It looks like it but I thought it would be rude to ask.

I think most of them know now, but if I get anymore, I'll be sure to write about them.

25-27 Weeks

25 weeks

Size of Baby: The size of a head of cauliflower. About 14 1/2 inches long and about 2 pounds.

Gender: Girl--Sidney Katherine
Belly Button In/Out: Still in but looks like it may change soon

Movement: She's getting more and more active. Bailey felt her for the first time about a week and a half ago. Last night she really got to going. It felt like she was kicking and punching all at the same time.

Sleep: Not too bad. Most nights I sleep pretty well. I just have to get up several times to go to the bathroom and have the occasional leg cramp.

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach.

What I am looking forward to: Continuing to work on the room and her bedding.
Cravings/Aversions: None in particular. My sweet tooth seems to be coming back.

Symptoms: Some back aches and aching feet, depending on what I've done that day.
What's to come in the next week or so: I have my next doctor's appointment Monday which includes the lovely glucose screening test. Also, it's time to register. Not sure if I'm looking forward to it or absolutley dreading it. Any suggestions on what is absolutely needed/or not really needed are greatly appreciated.

A Little Overdue?!? (Part 2)

Here is a recap of the last few months in pictures..... (We bought a new camera as a Christmas/anniversary/new baby gift to ourselves so I'm hoping to get better at the whole picture taking thing. We shall see if that happens or not).

I have a couple pictures of the night we took the pregnancy tests but I seemed to have misplaced that memory card. (Those were on the dinosaur old camera).

I tried to upload the video of us announcing baby to his parents but I did not succeed. So sorry. It is absoultely priceless.
